Dell XPS
The XPS range is Dell's well-built and excellent machines that are worth repairing when something goes wrong. We see XPS laptops regularly at both our Auckland workshops. Most common XPS faults we repair:
- Hinge failure and cracked rear cover: The most well-documented issue in the XPS range, particularly the XPS 13 and XPS 15.
- Display cable damage: The display cable runs through the hinge assembly and is subject to repeated flexing and display issues.
- Thermal throttling and overheating: XPS models with thin chassis are prone to overheating. Fan cleaning and thermal paste replacement can restore proper operating temperatures.
- Battery swelling: If the trackpad is clicking differently, feels raised, or the laptop's base looks uneven, a swelling battery is the likely cause.
Dell Latitude
The Latitude is Dell's business-grade laptop range — more robustly built than Inspirons, with better repairability and longer manufacturer support cycles. Most common Latitude faults we repair:
- Battery degradation: Business laptops often live permanently plugged in on a desk which accelerates degradation.
- Keyboard and docking station wear: Heavy daily keyboard use on a business machine produces wear that consumer laptops rarely see.
- Charging port damage: Repeated insertion and removal of charging cables wears out charging ports on any laptop.
- Display and hinge stiffness: Older Latitude models can develop stiff or sticky hinges over time that may cause physical damage to the display assembly.
Dell Vostro
The Vostro fault profile is broadly similar to the Inspiron. Parts availability on older Vostro models can vary, and we'll advise on sourcing before quoting. Most common Vostro faults we repair:

Dell G-Series (Gaming)

- Battery drain: Regular deep-discharge cycles accelerate degradation faster than typical use.

Older Dell Models
If your Dell is five or more years old, that doesn't mean it's not worth repairing. We regularly extend the working life of older Dell machines with the right combination of SSD upgrade, fan cleaning, battery replacement, and fresh Windows installation.
Parts availability is the main consideration with older models. Genuine Dell parts for discontinued machines can be difficult or impossible to source. Where genuine parts are unavailable, we use high-quality OEM components from reputable suppliers — and we'll always inform you before any work begins.
