What Apple-Certified Repair Means for Your iPhone
This is worth covering honestly, because there’s a lot of confusion about what independent iPhone repair actually means for your device and warranty.
Apple Independent Repair Provider Programme
Advanced Computers is a verified Apple Independent Repair Provider (IRP). This is a formal programme through which Apple authorises independent repair businesses to perform genuine Apple repairs using Apple genuine parts, Apple tools, and Apple-approved procedures.
What this means for you practically:
- Your repair uses the correct parts — Apple genuine parts where appropriate, and Apple-approved OEM alternatives where specified
- Your warranty is protected — an IRP repair does not void your Apple warranty, unlike a repair from an uncertified shop using uncertified parts
- Face ID and Touch ID are handled correctly — our technicians follow Apple’s own procedures for screen replacement and other repairs that involve paired security components
- Software calibration is performed correctly — some iPhone parts require software pairing after installation; our technicians have access to Apple’s Systems Configuration tool to complete this
What About Warranty and AppleCare?
Apple’s warranty and AppleCare+ cover manufacturing defects — not accidental damage, liquid damage, or wear. A repair by an Apple-certified repairer, using genuine or approved parts, does not void the warranty for unrelated issues. A repair by an uncertified repairer using uncertified parts can.
If your iPhone is still under warranty or covered by AppleCare+ for the specific issue you’re experiencing (a manufacturing defect, for example), it may be worth contacting Apple directly first. We’ll always tell you honestly if that’s the better path for your situation — even if it means you go to Apple instead of us.
Individual Apple Technician Certification
Beyond the business-level IRP certification, each of our technicians holds individual Apple certification. These are not one-time credentials — they require ongoing training and are renewed as Apple releases new models and procedures. It means the person working on your iPhone has been trained and assessed by Apple, not just by us.
Apple Genuine Parts vs OEM: What’s Right for Your iPhone Repair?
This is a question we get asked regularly, and we think it deserves a straight answer rather than vague reassurances.
Apple Genuine Parts
These are parts manufactured by or for Apple, distributed through Apple’s official supply chain. They are what Apple Stores use, and what Apple Independent Repair Providers like Advanced Computers have access to for eligible repairs.
For certain repairs — particularly screens and batteries on current-model iPhones — Apple genuine parts include software pairing that ensures full functionality: True Tone display calibration, accurate battery health reporting, and Face ID preservation. For these repairs, genuine parts are the right choice.
OEM Parts
OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are components manufactured to the same specification as the original, often by the same factories that supply Apple, but distributed outside Apple’s official channel. Quality varies — there are excellent OEM parts and poor ones, and the difference matters enormously.
At Advanced Computers, the OEM parts we use are sourced from reputable suppliers with consistent quality standards. For certain repairs on older models — where Apple genuine parts aren’t available or where the cost difference isn’t justified by the phone’s value — quality OEM parts are a sound, honest option.
Which Does Your Repair Need?
We’ll always tell you which type of part applies to your specific repair and why. As a general guide:
- Current model iPhones (last two to three years) — we recommend Apple genuine parts for screen and battery repairs, where software pairing makes a genuine difference
- Older iPhones — quality OEM parts are often appropriate and represent better value given the device’s age
- Structural parts, buttons, cameras — context-dependent; we’ll advise based on your model and the specific repair
We will never use a part we wouldn’t be comfortable explaining to you. If you want to know exactly what’s going into your phone before we start, just ask.
