The service we offer is different from competitors. The key offer we do is iPad repair instead of replacement, though we do offer trade-in options if a repair isn’t cost-effective. Our Apple technicians are the most experienced in New Zealand on hardware. They can identify circuit issue on motherboard and fix it at reasonable prices.

Our iPad Repair Process

1. Book Online or Drop Off Your iPad

Book online and send your iPad to us, or walk straight into our Rosedale or Penrose workshop — no appointment necessary. We repair all iPad models, from older iPad minis to the latest iPad Pro.

2. Bench Diagnosis

Our individually Apple-certified technicians check your iPad to pinpoint the exact fault — screen, battery, charging, Apple Pencil issues, or software. Most diagnoses are completed the same day.

3. Fixed Repair Quote

We’ll call or text you with a clear quote before any chargeable work begins. If the fix is covered by your inspection fee (from $80, incl. GST), it’s done at no extra cost — otherwise, we quote first and credit that fee toward the final price.

4. Repairs Performed

Once approved, our technicians get to work using genuine or high-quality OEM parts (subject to your approval). We use appropriately specced screens that preserve Apple Pencil functionality — a common issue with lower-quality replacements elsewhere. Your data is protected throughout.

5. Full Testing

Every repaired iPad goes through thorough testing to confirm the fix, including Apple Pencil calibration where applicable, before it leaves our workshop.

6. Pickup / Delivery

We’ll call or text you as soon as your iPad is ready. Mailed-in devices are couriered back to you. Most iPad screen and battery repairs are completed the same day, with more complex repairs typically taking 2–5 working days.

How We Fix Your iPad

Once diagnosis is complete and you’ve approved the quote, here’s what happens to your iPad:

1. Disassembly

Your iPad is carefully opened down to the affected component, following Apple’s official disassembly procedure to protect the display assembly and internal connectors.

2. Component-Level Testing

Before replacing anything, we test the specific part in question — battery, charging port, or digitiser — to confirm it’s the actual cause of the fault.

3. Repair or Replace

Depending on the fault, we fit a genuine or high-quality replacement part — screen (correctly specced to preserve Apple Pencil function), battery, or charging port.

4. Reassembly

Your iPad is rebuilt to original spec, with genuine adhesive and seals refitted to maintain structural integrity.

5. Calibration

For screen repairs, we calibrate the display and confirm Apple Pencil functionality, since this is commonly affected by incompatible replacement screens.

6. Final Function Test

Before it leaves our workshop, we test the repaired function directly — display, touch response, Apple Pencil (where applicable), battery charging, and overall performance.

What Apple-Certified Repair Means for Your iPad

Advanced Computers is a verified Apple Independent Repair Provider (IRP), and our technicians hold individual Apple certification. This means repairs are performed using Apple genuine parts or Apple-approved alternatives, following Apple’s own procedures, with access to Apple’s calibration tools.

Why It Matters Specifically for iPad

Two areas where certification makes a practical difference on iPads, beyond what applies to iPhones:

Apple Pencil compatibility: A screen replacement performed with a correctly specced, Apple-approved digitiser preserves full Apple Pencil functionality. An uncertified repair using an incompatible screen digitiser can permanently degrade or disable Pencil response — something that can’t be corrected without replacing the screen again with the right part.

Face ID on iPad Pro: The same TrueDepth pairing concerns that apply to Face ID iPhones apply equally to iPad Pro models with Face ID. An incorrectly handled screen replacement permanently disables Face ID. Our Apple-certified technicians follow Apple’s procedures to prevent this.

Warranty protection: A repair at an Apple IRP using genuine or approved parts does not void your existing Apple warranty or AppleCare+ coverage for unrelated issues. A repair at an uncertified shop using uncertified parts can. This is particularly relevant for business customers managing multiple devices under AppleCare.

If your iPad is still under warranty or AppleCare+ for the specific issue you’re experiencing, we’ll always tell you honestly if contacting Apple directly is the better path — even if that means you don’t repair with us.

Apple Genuine Parts vs OEM: What’s Right for Your iPad Repair?

This is a question we get asked regularly, and we think it deserves a straight answer rather than vague reassurances.

Apple Genuine Parts

These are parts manufactured by or for Apple, distributed through Apple’s official supply chain. They are what Apple Stores use, and what Apple Independent Repair Providers like Advanced Computers have access to for eligible repairs.

For certain repairs — particularly screens on current-model iPads — Apple genuine parts ensure full functionality, including correct digitiser calibration for accurate touch response and proper Apple Pencil recognition. For these repairs, genuine parts are the right choice.

OEM Parts

OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) parts are components manufactured to the same specification as the original, often by the same factories that supply Apple, but distributed outside Apple’s official channel. Quality varies — there are excellent OEM parts and poor ones, and the difference matters enormously, especially for iPad screens where a poorly specced digitiser is a common cause of Apple Pencil issues after a repair elsewhere.

At Advanced Computers, the OEM parts we use are sourced from reputable suppliers with consistent quality standards, and are appropriately specced to preserve Apple Pencil function. For certain repairs on older models — where Apple genuine parts aren’t available or where the cost difference isn’t justified by the iPad’s value — quality OEM parts are a sound, honest option.

Which Does Your iPad Need?

We’ll always tell you which type of part applies to your specific repair and why. As a general guide:

  • Current model iPads (iPad Pro, iPad Air, recent-generation iPad) — we recommend Apple genuine parts for screen repairs, where Apple Pencil compatibility and touch accuracy depend on correct pairing
  • Older iPads (iPad mini, older standard iPads) — quality OEM parts are often appropriate and represent better value given the device’s age
  • Structural parts, buttons, cameras — context-dependent; we’ll advise based on your model and the specific repair

We will never use a part we wouldn’t be comfortable explaining to you. If you want to know exactly what’s going into your iPad before we start, just ask.
